Kinansela ng Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) ang kanilang 25-year land use agreement sa isang kilalang resort sa Boracay dahil sa mga paglabag nito sa kasunduan.

Sinabi ni DENR Undersecretary for Field Operations Demetrio Ignacio Jr. sa kanyang kautusan na pinawalangsaysay ang Forest Land Use Agreement for Tourism Purposes (FLAgT) sa Boracay West Cove resort.

Sa ilalim ng FLAgT, pinapahintulutan ang pansamantalang taon. “The agreement applies to forest lands for bathing, camp sites, ecotourism destinations, hotel sites and other tourism purposes,” sabi ng DENR.

Kinansela ang kasunduan sa nasabing beach resort batay na rin sa kautusan ng Department of Tourism (DoT) dahil sa mga paglabag nito sa FLAgT na inisyu ni dating DENR Secretary Lito Atienza noong 2009. Kabilang sa mga nilabag nito ang pagtatayo ng mga permanenteng istruktura sa lugar na sumusukat ng 3,159 metro kuwadrado na nasa labas na ng 998-sq. m. sa Barangay Balabag.

Matatandaang nagpalabas na ng cease and desist order si dating DENR Regional Director Julian Amador laban sa nasabing resort dahil sa isinasagawang improvement sa labas ng FLAgT area at sa pagkabigo nitong magsumite ng site management plan at annual report noong Agosto, 2011 ngunit binalewala lamang umano ito ng nasabing establisimyento. “To emphasize, the construction of permanent structure outside the approved FLAgT area is considered a grave violation of the terms and conditions of the agreement, tantamount to an intentional disrespect and disregard for the authorities,” paliwanag pa ni Ignacio.
