Sinalungat ng Caritas Philippines ang binabalak itayong artificial intelligence (AI) data center sa Tarlac bilang bahagi ng Pax Silica Initiative ng Amerika.
Sa latest Facebook post kasi ng Caritas PH nitong Sabado, Agosto 1, nagbigay sila ng reaksiyon sa naging ikalimang State of the Nation Address (SONA) ni Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr.
Kabilang sa kinomentuhan nila ay ang Pax Silica na ibinida ng Pangulo na anito’y makapagbibigay umano ng de-kalidad na trabaho sa mga Pilipino.
“It will bring quality jobs to our people, accelerate our industrial competitiveness, and revitalize our economy,” aniya.
Ngunit sabi ni Bishop Gerardo Alminaza, Pangulo ng Caritas PH, "Pax Silica must not become another pretext for land conversion, displacement, destructive mining or the diversion of electricity and water away from public needs.”

“The question is not whether the Philippines should industrialize, but what kind of industrialization truly serves the Filipino people,” dugtong pa ng obispo.
Matatandaang ayon sa AGHAM - Advocates of Science and Technology for the People, may mga residente na ng tatlong barangay sa Capas, Tarlac ang naapektuhan ng Pax Silica.
Ito ay taliwas sa pahayag ng Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) na wala umanong mga katutubong mapapaalis sa lokasyon na pagtatayuan ng mga AI data center.

Bukod sa Caritas PH, naglabas na rin ng pahayag si Kalookan Bishop Cardinal Pablo “Ambo” Virgilio David para kuwestiyunin ang totoong pakinabang ng Pax Silica sa Pilipinas.
Aniya, "The question for the Philippines is different. Will Pax Silica help build Filipino scientific capability, technological innovation, and industrial resilience?"
"Or will it primarily serve the strategic interests of others while Filipinos provide the land, natural resources, water, energy, tax incentives, and labor?" dugtong pa ni Cardinal Ambo.
Ayon sa cardinal, lehitimong tanong daw ang mga ito. Hindi dahil tinututulan nila ang foreign investment kundi dahil pinapalakas dapat ng genuine partnership ang bansang magiging host ng naturang proyekto.
