Ipinanawagan ng United Church of Christ in the Philippines (UCCP) sa Senado ang integridad, hustisya, at katapangan sa pangunguna nito sa nakatakdang pagpupulong nila hinggil sa impeachment ni Bise Presidente Sara Duterte.
“The Council of Bishops of the United Church of Christ in the Philippines (UCCP) calls upon the Philippine Senate to faithfully uphold its constitutional mandate with integrity, impartiality, and moral courage,” saad ng UCCP sa kanilang pahayag noong Linggo, Mayo 17.
Anila pa, ang nakatakdang pagpupulong na ito ng senado sa impeachment ni Duterte dahil sa mga alegasyong betrayal of public trust, paglabag sa konstitusyon, graft and corruption, at panunuhol, ay tungkulin ng Senado sa sambayanang Pilipino at kasaysayan ng bansa.
“As the House of Representatives transmits the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte on allegations of betrayal of public trust, culpable violation of the Constitution, graft and corruption, bribery, and other high crimes, the Senate must recognize that its responsibility transcends partisan interests and political alliances. It bears a solemn duty before the Filipino people and before history itself,” ani UCCP.
Saad din ng UCCP na ang impeachment ay hindi lamang politikal na proseso, ngunit isang pananagutan upang protektahan ang demokrasya mula sa pang-aabuso ng kapangyarihan.

Kaya bilang tagapanguna, naniniwala ang grupo na ang senado ay dapat walang kinikilingan at nananatiling naninindigan sa katotohahan.
“Impeachment is not merely a political process but a constitutional mechanism meant to preserve public accountability and protect democratic institutions from abuse of power. The Senate, sitting as an impeachment court, must therefore act with independence, fairness, and fidelity to the truth,” saad ng UCCP.
Anila pa, nagpapatuloy din ang kanilang panawagan sa hustisya para sa mga nabiktima ng “war on drugs” at kanilang pamilya noong administrasyon ni dating pangulong Rodrigo Duterte.
“Our commitment to justice cannot be selective. We reiterate our continuing call for accountability regarding the thousands of lives lost during the anti-drug campaign of the previous administration. Justice for the victims and their families is both a moral imperative and a legal obligation,” panawagan ng UCCP.
Samantala, ipinapanawagan pa ng grupo ang pagharap ni Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa sa mga alegasyon sa kaniya kaugnay ng human rights violations at kooperasyon sa proseso ng International Criminal Court (ICC).
“In this light, we call on Senator Ronald dela Rosa to courageously face all investigations related to alleged human rights violations, including cooperation with processes initiated by the International Criminal Court (ICC). No public official, regardless of position or influence, is above the law,” dagdag ng UCCP.
Sa pagtatapos ng pahayag, ang UCCP ay nananawagan din ng dasal at katapangan mula sa kanilang mga miyembro, mga simbahan at parte nito sa mga oras na ito.
“We therefore call upon all UCCP members, local churches, church workers, and faith communities to exercise prayerful discernment, critical reflection, and moral courage. In this divisive times, Christians witness demands not silence, but prophetic faithfulness,” saad ng UCCP.
Matatandaang inanunsyo ni Sen. President Alan Peter Cayetano na nakatakdang mag-convene ng impeachment court ang Senado ngayong Lunes, Mayo 18.
