Naglabas ng pahayag ang Univesity of the Philippines (UP) kaugnay sa nangyaring trahedya sa Taboso, Negros Occidental kamakailan na ikinasawi ng 19 na indibidwal. 

Kabilang sa mga 19 na ito ang estudyante nilang si Alyssa Alano na kumukuha ng programang political science at si Maureen Kiel Santuyo na estudyante naman sa UP Open University sa ilalim ng Associate Arts.

Sa latest Facebook post ng UP nitong Lunes, Abril 27, sinabi nilang nanindigan sila sa karapatan ng kanilang mga estudyante na gamitin ang kalayaan ng mga ito na protektado ng Konstitusyon.

“While initial reports indicate that both students were engaged in community activities for their respective organizations and not university-sanctioned programs, we stand by the right of all students to lawfully and peacefully exercise their constitutionally protected freedoms, especially in furtherance of raising their social consciousness,” saad ng UP.

Dagdag pa nila, “The University shall remain a beacon of critical thinking, conscience, and courage.”

Samantala, naghayag naman ng suporta ang pamantasan sa ikinasang imbestigasyon ng Commission on Human Rights (CHR) para tuklasin ang katotohanan sa likod ng naturang engkuwentro sa pagitan ng mga sundalo at umano’y rebeldeng grupo.
