Kinumpirma ni Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) 2026 Philippines spokesperson Dominic Xavier Imperial na magkakaroon ng isang bilateral meeting sa pagitan nina Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. at Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Kaugnay ito sa pagpunta ni PBBM sa Kazan, Russia sa darating na Miyerkules, Hunyo 17 hanggang Huwebes, Hunyo 18, para sa gaganaping commemorative summit ng ASEAN at Russia—bilang tanda ng ika-35 anibersaryo ng ugnayan ng naturang rehiyon at bansa.

Sa isinagawang press briefing ng Presidential Communications Office (PCO), kasama ang Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) nitong Lunes, Hunyo 15, idiniin ni Imperial na ang bilateral meeting ay komemorasyon ng 50 taong diplomatic relations ng Pilipinas at Russia.

“On the margins of the summit, the President will also hold a bilateral meeting with President Putin,” saad ni imperial.

Aniya, “The discussions will center on the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Russia.”

“The meeting will likewise provide an opportunity to explore ways to further strengthen cooperation in areas of mutual interest—particularly energy security and food security,” dagdag pa niya.

Anang ASEAN spokesperson, nakatuon daw ang Pilipinas bilang ASEAN chair sa pagpapatibay ng relasyon sa loob ng regional organization.

“As ASEAN chair, the Philippines remains committed to strengthening ASEAN’s external relations—ensuring that the region’s engagement with partners continue to advance ASEAN centrality,” anang ASEAN spokesperson.

“And as chair, the Philippines continues to carry this responsibility, ensuring that the summit yields meaningful and forward-looking outcomes for our peoples,” pagtatapos niya.

Pagdidiin pa ni Imperial, pagtutuunan ng dalawang Pangulo ang usaping may kinalaman sa food at energy security sapagkat ito raw ay “mutually important” sa dalawang bansa.
