Idineklara na ang state of calamity sa General Santos City nitong Lunes, Hunyo 8, matapos yumanig ang mapaminsalang magnitude 7.8 lindol sa siyudad at sa karatig-lalawigan nito.

Batay sa kumpirmasyon ng GenSan Vice Mayor Ed Yumang sa kaniyang Facebook page nito ring Lunes, Hunyo 8, isinagawa ang deklarasyon sa ginanap na emergency special session kaugnay sa naganap na insidente.

“In today’s emergency special session held at the City Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office, the Hon. Vice Mayor Jose Edmar Yumang presided over the 7th Special Session of the city council, following the wake of a 7.8 magnitude earthquake that hit the city,” mababasa sa post.

“In the special session, the 21st City council approved the resolution entitled, ‘A Resolution Declaring A State Of Calamity In the City Of General Santos Following The Magnitude 7.8 Earthquake On June 8, 2026 And Authorizing The Utilization Of The Local Disaster Risk Reduction And Management Fund’,” dagdag pa nito.

Isiniwalat naman ni Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer (CDRRMO) Dr. Agripino “Bong” Dacera sa naturang sesyon na naapektuhan ng magnitude 7.8 na lindol ang higit 20% ng populasyon ng lungsod.

Base sa huling tala ng Office of Civil Defense (OCD), as of 3:30 ng hapon ngayong araw, pumalo na sa 19 ang kumpirmadong nasawi bunsod ng pagyanig.
