Dumepensa ang abogado ni dating House Speaker at Leyte 1st District Rep. Martin Romualdez sa mga kumalat na balitang hindi napayagan ang huli para makakuha ng travel clearance sa pagbiyahe patungong Singapore mula Abril 20 hanggang Mayo 4, 2026.
Matatandaan kasing kumalat ang liham ni Romualdez na may petsang Abril 20, 2025, kung saan mababasang sumulat siya sa kay House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III para humiling na makapag-follow-up check-up ng kaniyang medical procedure.

Idagdag pa ang naging apela ni Ombudsman Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla sa Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) na maghain ng freeze order sa mga ari-arian ni Romualdez dahil umano'y money laundering.
Hindi pinayagan ng Ombudsman ang hiling ni Romualdez na magpa-angioplasty check-up sa Singapore dahil baka “hindi na raw siya bumalik.”

“Mr. Romualdez was supposed to have a check-up in Singapore. They were trying to ask us to allow him to leave, but because we have a lookout order with the immigration among those who are under investigation, we did not respond favorably with the request to leave,” saad ni Remulla.
KAUGNAY NA BALITA: Ombudsman, pinapa-freeze mga ari-arian ni Romualdez
Matapos ang mga ito, agad namang naglabas ng pahayag ang abogado ni Romualdez na si Atty. Ade Fajardo at nilinaw niyang napagbigyan daw ang travel clearance ng kaniyang kliyente.
“Leyte Rep. Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez is not 'barred' from leaving the country. What exists, if any, is an immigration lookout bulletin order, which does not prohibit travel but simply requires prior coordination with authorities,” pagsisimula niya.
Diin pa ng abogado, “In fact, Rep. Romualdez sought travel authority in all good faith-and this authority has been granted.”
Buwelta naman ni Fajardo sa usapin ng freeze order ng AMLC, kinakailangan daw muna ng nasabing ahensya na pormal na maghain ng aplikasyon sa Court of Appeals nang may sapat na mga ebidensya bago maisulong ang apela ng Office of the Ombudsman.
“[U]nder the law, the Anti-Money Laundering Council must file a formal application before the Court of Appeals, supported by evidence, before any freeze order may be issued,” aniya.
Saad pa niya, wala pa raw silang natatanggap ng kahit na anong notice sa aplikasyon o pag-uutos ng AMLC at nananatiling espekulasyon lamang ang naturang “freeze order.”
“As of this time, we have received no official notice of any such application or order. Any statement suggesting that a freeze order is imminent remains speculative,” ‘ika niya.
Pagpapatuloy ni Fajardo, wala pa rin naman daw kahit anong naihahain na kaso laban sa kaniyang kliyente na si Romualdez mula sa Office of the Ombudsman o kahit saang korte.
“As to the supposed case, there is no filed charge before the Office of the Ombudsman or any court. Statements about cases 'being prepared' do not equate to an actual prosecution,” paglilinaw niya.
Nanawagan naman si Fajardo sa publiko na maging maingat daw sa mga nabubuong konklusyon mula sa mga hindi kumpletong impormasyon.
Aniya pa, patuloy raw na nirerespeto ng kaniyang kliyente na si Romualdez ang legal na proseso at handa silang humarap sa wastong pagpupulong sakaling may kailangan silang isagawang pormal na aksyon.
“We urge caution against drawing conclusions from incomplete or unofficial information. Rep. Romualdez has consistently respected legal processes and will continue to do so,” pagtitiyak niya.
“If and when any formal action is taken, we will respond fully and appropriately before the proper forum. Until then, these remain unverified claims, and our client is entitled to the presumption of innocence,” pagtatapos pa ni Fajardo.
