Tinawag ni Senador Robinhood "Robin" Padilla na “walang basehan” ang pagsuspinde ng National Telecommunications Commission's (NTC) sa operasyon ng Sonshine Media Network International (SMNI) sa loob ng 30 araw.

Sa isang pahayag nitong Biyernes, Disyembre 22, iginiit ni Padilla na instrumental umano ang mga programa ng SMNI sa pagtulong sa pamahalaan hinggil sa “anti-terrorism campaign” nito sa pamamagitan daw ng pagmulat sa publiko laban sa "communist propaganda and recruitment strategies."

Kaugnay nito, plano raw ng senador, na nagsisilbing chairperson ng Senate Committee on Public Information and Mass Media, na pormal na ihain ang kaniyang resolusyon tungkol sa isyu kapag nagpatuloy na muli ang Senate sessions sa darating na Enero 2024.

"The NTC, in its show cause and suspension order, failed to indicate the need to suspend the operations of the SMNI, much more express how this is necessary to avoid serious and irreparable damage or inconvenience to the public or to private interests," ani Padilla sa draft ng kaniyang resolusyon.

Operasyon ng SMNI, suspendido ng 30 araw

"In the absence of proof of serious and irreparable damage or inconvenience to the public or private interests that may be caused by SMNI's continued operations, the general rule shall apply wherein the NTC shall have the power, upon proper notice and hearing, to issue a suspension order pursuant to the Public Services Act.”

"The baseless issuance of a 30-day suspension order is a transgression of SMNI's right to due process, which will result in serious and irreparable damage to it and its employees no less," saad pa niya.

Matatandaang nitong Huwebes, Disyembre 21, nang patawan ng NTC ang SMNI ng 30-day suspension. Ito ay alinsunod sa House Resolution No. 189, dahil umano sa mga paglabag ng network sa terms and conditions ng prangkisa nito.

Bago naman ang naturang pagsuspinde ng NTC, matatandaang pinatawan ng Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) ng 14-days preventive suspension order ang dalawang shows ng network na “Laban Kasama ang Bayan” at “Gikan Sa Masa, Para Sa Masa.”

Ayon sa MTRCB, sinuspinde nito ang “Laban Kasama ang Bayan” dahil daw sa “unverified report” nito hinggil sa umano’y ₱1.8 billion travel funds ni House Speaker Martin Romualdez.

Matatandaang iginiit ni SMNI host Jeffrey “Ka Eric” Celiz sa telebisyon kamakailan na gumastos umano si Romualdez ng ₱1.8 bilyon sa kaniyang mga paglalakbay para sa 2023.

Samantala, sinuspinde rin ng ahensya ang “Gikan Sa Masa, Para Sa Masa” dahil naman umano sa “death threats” at “profane language” ng guests ng show sa dalawang episodes nito.
