Dahil inaasahang tataas muli ang presyo ng petrolyo, dapat na agad na ipatupad ng gobyerno ang pansamantalang pagsususpinde ng excise tax sa mga produktong petrolyo upang mabawasan ang epekto nito sa mga mamimili, ani presidential candidate Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson noong Linggo.
Sinabi ni Lacson, standard bearer ng Partido Reporma, na naniniwala siyang magagawa ito ng gobyerno hanggang sa maging stable na ang international oil price maging at mapamamahalaan ito.
“Another round of price hikes in fuel is expected this week and this time, the increases are unprecedented,” ani Lacson. Dagdag niya ang umentong ito ay lalong banta pa sa mabigat ng halaga ng pang-araw-araw na gastusin.
“The Mean of Platts Singapore (MOPS) reference price for refined petroleum products and other oil price indices have already reached levels never seen before as a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine,” sabi niya habang ipinuntong ang presyo ng gasolina at diesel ay maaaring umabot sa P80-90 bawat litro.

Sinabi pa ni Lacson na ang pagsuspinde sa excise tax sa gasolina ay magbibigay ng higit na kailangan na breathing space hindi lamang sa mga motorista, kundi maging sa halos lahat ng sektor na apektado ng pagtaas ng presyo ng petrolyo dahil makakaapekto rin ito sa presyo ng pagkain at iba pang pangunahing bilihin.
“The upward trajectory of fuel prices is expected to continue and the government must do something now to mitigate the impact of international oil prices on motorists, the public transport sector, fisherfolk and farmers who will bear the brunt of this burden if we do not act now,” giit ni Lacson.
Kasabay nito, sinabi ng senador na dapat gumawa ang gobyerno ng pangmatagalang solusyon sa krisis, kabilang ang paggamit ng renewable energy.
“Our long-term solutions should be in investing in renewable energy, facilitating the transition to electric vehicles in our transport sector, and exploring for oil, gas and other indigenous energy resources that can supply sustainable energy,” sabi ng senador.
“This will serve multiple purposes in relation to climate, the environment and sustainable development. This will remove our dependence on imported fuel and will be a buffer against disruptions like war,” pagpupunto niya.
