Pumayag na si pole vaulter EJ Obiena at ang Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association (PATAFA) na sumailalim sa mediation process kasunod na rin ng pagdinig ng Committee on Sports ng Senado nitong Lunes, Pebrero 7.
Isinagawa ang nasabing hakbang matapos iharap ng magkabilang panig ang kanilang kaso sa mga senador at sa mga sports officials. Umabot ng limang oras ang isinagawang Senate investigation.
Nag-ugat ang usapin nang paratangan ng PATAFA si Obiena na ginastos sa hindi tamang paraan ang pondo ng gobyerno.
“I’m all in,” pahayag ni Obiena nang tanungin ng mga senador kung nais niyang pag-usapan ang usapin, kasama ang PATAFA.
“I’ve said my piece and I’m more than willing to put this aside and move on… I just want to be reinstated as a national athlete and be able to represent the Philippines and handle my liquidation in a better system that would not go through me as what I have proposed to Patafa last August,” anito.
"There should be a sign of reconciliation and a sign that they actually want this and my understanding, putting me back as a national team member which Senator Francis Tolentino said a while ago as a sign of good faith,” pagdidiin ni Obiena.
Payag din sa mediation si PATAFA chairman Rufus Rodriguez, katulad ng nais na mangyari ngPhilippine Sports Commission (PSC) na pumapagitna sa usapin.
Binanggit din ni Rodriguez na pinawalang-bisa ang ipinataw na pagpapatalsik kay Obiena mula sa national team dahil na rin sa mediation.
“We have been waiting for this. We have been wanting to go into mediation but twice, naudlot,” sabi pa ni Rodriguez.
