Nasagip ng Bureau of Immigration (BI) ang nasa 680 biktima ng human trafficking at illegal recruitment noong nakaraang taon.
Sinabi ni Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente na ang mga biktima ay bahagi ng 13,680 na mga pasahero na hindi pinahintulutan na umalis ng bansa ng mga opisyal ng Immigration na karamihan ay dahil sa hindi kumpleto at hindi wastong mga papeles sa pagbiyahe.
Ayon sa BI, inuri ng kanilang travel control and enforcement unit (TCEU) ang nasa 491 katao bilang posibleng biktima ng human trafficking at itinurn-over sa Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT) para sa assistance at imbestigasyon.
Sa kabilang banda, may kabuuang 197 pang mga biktima ang itinurn-over sa Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), karamihan ay dahil sa pagpapakita ng peke, o kuwestyonableng mga permit sa trabaho sa ibang bansa at mga kontrata sa trabaho.

“There is still a large number of minors and underage victims posing as legitimate workers that were intercepted, despite the pandemic and continuous warnings we have issued,” sabi ni Morente.
Aniya, kasama sa interception ang 326 na menor de edad kung saan 18 sa kanila nagpakilala ng ibang identity.
“Some common schemes that human traffickers and illegal recruiters used are the issuance of tampered visas to their victims, falsified marriages, the use of tourist visas and duping underage Filipinos to work as household workers,” sabi ni Morente.
“We have been issuing warnings to our kababayans against the dirty tricks of scammers and traffickers as they only give false promises and put their victims in danger,” dagdag ni Morente.
