Tiwala pa rin ang Malacañang na matutuloy ang idadaos na mid-term elections sa Mayo ng susunod na taon, sa kabila ng posibleng plebisito sa panukalang federal constitution.

Tugon ito ni Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, kasabay na rin ng inaasahang pagsusumite kay Pangulong Duterte ng draft federal constitution bilang resulta ng pag-aaral ng 22 miyembro ng Consultative Committee (ConCom) sa 1987 Constitution.

Ang nasabing draft constitution ay nakatakdang isumite sa pangulo ng Lunes.

Inilahad ni Roque na ipatutupad pa rin ng Presidente ang 1987 Constitution hanggang hindi pa nararatipikahan ng publiko ang mungkahing federal charter.

“Definitely. In fact the President has said that he will not have any hand in any elective position not being subject to election in 2019. So that is his position. He will implement the current Constitution in so far as it calls for general elections this 2019,” anito.

Gayunman, duda si Roque kung makakapagsilbi pa rin ng anim na taong termino ang mga nahahalal na senador katulad ng itinatadhana ng 1987 Constitution.

“I do not know what provision that they have. But I have heard, although I haven’t seen, that the transitory provision provides that these Senators who would be elected this year might serve only three years. But I’m not sure if that’s the final. I’m not sure, I only heard. So, we’ll find out this afternoon,” dugtong nito.

Pinakakalma rin muna niya ang publiko at sinabing maghintay na lang muna na pag-aralan ng Kongreso ang panukalang federal charter bago magbigay ng kanilang espekulasyon.
