Ikinatuwa ng Malacañang ang mga pahayag kamakailan ng pinakamataas na diplomat ng United Kingdom sa Manila na walang masama sa pagdeklara ng martial law ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte.

Sinabi ni British Ambassador Asif Ahmad sa mga mamamahayag na hindi masama ang martial law basta’t gamitin ito alinsunod sa isinasaad ng Konstitusyon.

Ayon kay Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella, labis na nalulugod ang Executive Department sa mga ipinahayag ni Ahmad.

“We appreciate the statement of the Ambassador to support the Constitutional implementation of martial law and military action to suppress violence and impose control and security,” ani Abella.

Ginunita ni Abella ang mga naunang batikos ni Ahmad sa giyera kontra droga ni Duterte noong Setyembre, 2016 at pahayag nitong Pebrero na nagkaroon nga ng pagbabago sa Pilipinas, “but not in a good way.”

Sinabi ni Abella na ang pagpapakita ng suporta ni Ahmad sa martial law ni Duterte ay maaaring resulta ng mga terror attack sa Manchester at London Bridge kamakailan.

“Both the Philippines and the United Kingdom have suffered immensely from recent terrorist attacks and we reiterate our sympathy and solidarity with the victims in the Manchester and London atrocities,” dagdag niya.

Ayon sa opisyal ng Palasyo, masusupil ang banta ng terorismo, partikular ng grupong Islamic State (ISIS), kapag nagkaisa ang lahat ng bansa.

“We stand with the UK and the entire civilized world against this threat masquerading as religious war,” aniya. “There is nothing godly po patungkol sa ISIS at ang kanyang cohorts in Europe and Asia. But with unity and resolve, the nations of the world will crush this scourge.”
