Bumiyahe na si Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte patungong Vientiane sa Laos, para sa 28th at 29th Association of Southeast Asian Nation (ASEAN) summit, ang kauna-unahang working visit ng Pangulo sa labas ng bansa.
Sa kanyang talumpati sa departure area ng Francisco Bangoy International Airport, sinabi ng Pangulo na itutulak niya sa dialogue partners tulad ng Australia, China, India, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Russia, at United States ang mga isyung may kaugnayan sa pagkakaroon ng ‘peace, security, stability, at prosperity.’
“Recent events have shown that there are elements out there who seek to sow terror and wreak havoc in our society,” ayon sa Pangulo.
Inulit ng Pangulo ang mahigpit na kampanya nito laban sa terorismo. “We remain committed to our duty to protect our citizens, I ask every Filipino to do his and her part for the sake of the country,” dagdag niya.

Sinabi ng Pangulo na sa kanyang pakikisalamuha sa ASEAN leaders, kanyang hihilingin ang mas mainam na suporta laban sa terrorism at violent extremism.
“Terrorism and violent extreme is a global concern, and the Philippines will do its part as a member of the international community,” ayon sa Pangulo.
Ihihirit din ng Pangulo ang pagkakaroon ng drug-free ASEAN community. (Antonio L. Colina IV)
