Naniniwala si Senator Sonny Angara na hindi napapanahon ang balak ng bagong administrasyon na itaas sa 15% ang Value Added Tax (VAT).
Ang pahayag ni Angara ay batay na rin sa plano nina incoming Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno at incoming Finance Secretary Carlos “Sonny” Dominguez na dagdagan ng 3% ang kasalukuyang 12% VAT.
Aniya, dapat tingnan din ang posibilidad na may mga VAT exemptions na hindi naman dapat at manatiling walang VAT ang mga senior citizen at Persons With Disabilities (PWD).

“We can look into the proposed increase in value-added tax by the Duterte administration but we should take note that the country’s 12-percent VAT is already the highest rate in the region. We can also review the list of exemptions from VAT coverage and identify the transactions that should no longer be exempted from VAT,” ani Angara.
