Dalawang linggo simula nang manalo siya bilang 2015 Miss Universe, patuloy na paboritong paksa ng mga talakayan ng mga Pilipino ang pangalan ni Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach.
Sa katunayan, maging ang mga miyembro ng Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) ay hindi naiwasang itanong ang katanungang natanggap nila mula sa Twitter kay Court of Appeals (CA) Associate Justice Mariflor Punzalan-Castillo, isa sa 16 na nominado para pumuno sa nabakanteng puwesto sa Supreme Court (SC).
Ang katanungang binasa kay Castillo ay “what will she say to the newly crowned Miss Universe if she ever meets her in person?”
Bilang tugon, sinabi ni Castillo sa JBC members: “I will tell her that bringing back the US military bases is unconstitutional.”

Magugunita na sa unang question and answer portion ng Miss Universe 2015 sa Las Vegas, tinanong si Wurtzbach kung sa palagay niya ay dapat bang magkaroon ng military presence ang United States sa Pilipinas.
Sumagot ang 26-anyos na kandidata na: “I think that the US and the Philippines have always had a good relationship with each other. We’ve been colonized by the Americans and we have their culture in our traditions even up to this day. The Philippines is very welcoming with the Americans and I don’t see any problem with that at all.”
Ngunit para kay Castillo, ang pagpapabalik sa mga base militar ng US sa Pilipinas ay isang tahasang paglabag sa ating Constitution.
Iginiit niya na nakasaad sa 1987 Constitution na “there should be no military base [in the Philippines] unless concurred by Congress or approved by the people in a plebiscite.”
Nang tanungin kung paano siya bototo sa EDCA petition, sinabi ni Castillo na magpapasya siyang burahin ang bilateral defense deal.
“Strictly speaking, the Supreme Court can pass on the constitutionality of an executive agreement. I think I would declare it unconstitutional because US personnel and troops are here because of that. Structures are being built to store their weapons,” aniya.
Ngunit iginiit niya na mahirap makakuha ng unanimous ruling sa isang collegial body tulad ng Supreme Court, lalo na sa konteksto ng diumano’y banta sa seguridad ng China sa territorial disputes sa West Philippine Sea.
“I think there would be no unanimous decision because China is really a bully right now,” ani Castillo bilang tugon sa katanungan kung matalino bang magkaroon ng US presence dito para labanan ang lakas ng ilitar ng China.
