Tumanggap ang Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) ng dalawang 27-meter marine protector-class patrol vessels mula sa Estados Unidos, na may layuning palawigin ang marine safety, environmental protection, at maging ang maritime awareness at capabilities ng bansa.
“The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) receives two 27-meter marine protector-class patrol vessels from the United States of America (USA), expanding the country’s search and rescue (SAR), marine environmental protection, and maritime domain awareness capabilities,” saad ng PCG sa ibinahagi nilang ulat sa kanilang Facebook page nitong Linggo, Agosto 23.
Saad naman ni PCG Spokesperson Commodore Noemie Cayabyab, ang mga nasabing patrol vessels ay ikokomisyon sa PCG Fleet bilang BRP Pag-asa (PATS-2701) and BRP Patag (PATS-2702), kasabay ang inaasahang pagdating nito sa Maynila sa darating na Oktubre 2026.
“BRP Pag-asa (PATS-2701) and BRP Patag (PATS-2702) will strengthen the Philippine Coast Guard’s operational efficiency in safeguarding the country’s vast waters,” ani Cayabyab.
Dagdag pa niya, “They will enhance our ability to conduct maritime safety operations and respond to emergencies at sea, including oil spills and other marine environmental protection challenges.”
Ito ay sinundan ng pagtatapos ng specialized operational at maintenance training ng 24 crew members ng ahensya noon lamang Huwebes, Agosto 20, para sa naturang patrol vessels sa Baltimore, Maryland.
Anang tagapagsalita, ang inisyatibong ito ay tanda ng matagal nang umiiral na pagtutulungan sa pagitan ng Pilipinas at Amerika, at ang “commitment” ng dalawang bansa sa maritime security at regional stability sa Indo-Pacific.
