Namataan ang isang malaki at bibihirang bulaklak na may kakaibang amoy sa Mount Kanlaon Natural Park sa Barangay Ilijan, Bago City, batay sa ulat na ibinahagi ng  Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Negros Island Region noong Huwebes, Hulyo 2.

Ayon sa DENR Negros Island Region, ang nadiskubreng bulaklak ay isang “Rafflesia speciosa.”

Base sa tala, may dayametrong aabot sa 40.5 sentimetro ang bulaklak, na itinuturing na isa sa mga pinakabihira at pinakamalaking endemic flowers sa bansa.

Natagpuan ang naturang bulaklak sa gitna ng “unpredictable activity” na mayroon ang Mt. Kanlaon.

“Despite the unpredictable activity of Mt. Kanlaon, nature continues to remind us of its extraordinary beauty and resilience,” saad ng DENR Negros Island Region.

“This remarkable discovery is a powerful testament that even amidst volcanic unrest, the protected area remains a thriving sanctuary for unique and irreplaceable biodiversity,” dagdag pa nila. “It highlights the importance of sustained conservation efforts and the invaluable role of our dedicated park rangers, local government partners, and environmental stewards in safeguarding these natural treasures.”

Ang Rafflesia speciosa ay isang “rare parasitic plant” na endemic o matatagpuan lamang sa isla ng Panay at Negros sa Pilipinas.

Maihahambing ang amoy nito sa nabubulok na karne o kaya naman ay sa naaagnas na bangkay.
