Tahasang inihayag ni Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. na susuportahan niya kung sinuman ang mapipili ng Senado na magiging presiding officer sa impeachment trial laban kay Vice President Sara Duterte.
Sa isinagawang Kapihan with the Media sa Kazan, Russia noong Huwebes, Hunyo 18, ayos lang sa kaniya kung sinuman ang mapipili basta’t ito ay nakaayon sa batas.
“I will support whoever the Senate chooses. As long as the process that they undertook in making the choice is proper, is legal, is constitutional, then that’s fine with me,” saad ni PBBM.
Idiniin din ng Pangulo ang kahandaan nilang makipagtulungan sa lehislatura upang maging maayos ang lahat ng bagay—partikular na ang kaguluhan sa Senado.
“We will definitely do whatever we can to work together with the legislature—with the Senate in particular—to make sure that things go smoothly, and that we move away from the chaos that we have been seeing in the Senate,” anang Pangulo.
“I hope that the new reorganization will achieve that.” dagdag pa niya.

Matatandang kinumpirma kamakailan ni Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson na nagkaroon na ang mayorya ng isang inisyal na consensus—kung saan napagdesisyunan umano nilang ihalal si Sen. Chiz Escudero bilang presiding officer.
Ngunit diin naman ni Senate President (SP) Sherwin Gatchalian, hindi pa ito naisasapinal.
“I don’t want to preempt the presiding officer discussion. That would still have to be discussed by the senators. Because under the rules, it’s the Senate President who will preside, unless the Senate will decide otherwise,” saad ni SP Gatchalian sa kaniyang press briefing noong Huwebes, Hunyo 18.
Pero ayon naman kay PBBM, wala siyang nakikitang isyu kung si Sen. Escudero nga ang magiging presiding officer.
“As a matter of fact, the rules that were adopted by the Senate were the rules that Senator Chiz wrote during last year's impeachment, when they were handling the last year's impeachment complaint,” ani PBBM.
“So, in terms of his ability to be able to run the trial, I don't think that's in doubt,” giit pa ng Pangulo.
