Naghayag ng pananaw si Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Gen. Manager Nicolas Torre III kaugnay sa usapin ng kaligtasang pampubliko.
Sa isang Facebook post ni Torre noong Huwebes, Mayo 7, sinabi niyang hindi raw nasusukat ang public safety sa mabilis na pagresponde ng gobyerno.
“Public safety is not measured only by how fast government reacts after something bad happens,” saad ni Torre. “It is measured by whether ordinary people feel safe enough that the incident should not have happened in the first place.”
Dagdag pa niya, “Yes, arrests matter. Yes, police response matters. But let us not lower the standard of governance to simply reacting after citizens are already traumatized.”
Ayon sa MMDA Gen. Manager, ang layunin ay hindi lang ang pagresponde kundi ang mismong pagpigil sa masamang pangyayari.
“The goal is not for people to say, ‘buti na lang may dumating.’ The goal is for people to say, ‘buti na lang ligtas kami,’” aniya pa.
Sa huli, iginiit ni Torre ang kapayapaan at kaayusan ay hindi napapatunayan sa mga press release lang.
