Inanunsyo ng Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) na makikipagpulong sila sa social media conglomerate na Meta upang tuluyan nang mapuksa ang fake news sa digital space ng bansa.
Sa inilabas na pahayag ng DICT nitong Lunes, Abril 20, ibinahagi nilang tumugon ang Meta sa kanilang joint request kasama ang Department of Justice (DOJ), at Malacañang upang tugunan ang mapaminsalang pagkalat ng disinformation sa kanilang mga plataporma.
Gayunman, inamin din ng ahensya na nakukulangan sila sa mga aksyong inilahad ng Meta upang tuligsain ang mga pagkalat ng maling impormasyon.
“We acknowledge Meta’s response, which highlights the measures they are implementing to curb the spread of harmful disinformation on their platforms and their continued engagement with the Philippine Government. However, the interventions highlighted in their reply fall short of directly addressing the urgency of the situation and the specific, time-bound actions we have requested,” ani DICT.
Paliwanag ng DICT, sa lipunan kung saan ang anumang uri ng fake news at disinformation ay nakaaapekto sa kaayusan ng publiko at ekonomiya ng bansa, determinado silang panagutin ang mga responsable sa likod ng mga maling impormasyong ito bilang parte ng kanilang kampanyang “Kontra Fake News.”

“At a time when false and misleading information can trigger real-world harm that can affect public order and economic stability, we find the general descriptions of existing policies, as underscored in their reply, insufficient. The Philippine government underscores its commitment to combating disinformation while upholding the public’s right to accurate information and holding those who spread lies accountable as part of the Government’s Kontra Fake News Campaign,” saad ng DICT.
Kaya idiniin nilang kinakailangan nila ang mabilis mabilis na tugon laban sa mga maling impormasyon online habang pinagtitibay ang kalayaan sa pagpapahayag ng bawat mamamayan, habang hindi ito inaabuso upang sadyang magdulot ng panic at pananakot sa publiko gamit ang fake news.
“We need clear commitments, faster enforcement mechanisms, and measurable outcomes aligned with the risks we are facing today. The Philippine Government remains firmly committed to upholding freedom of expression. However, this freedom does not extend to the deliberate spread of false information that can cause public panic, undermine trust in institutions, or threaten public order,” saad ng DICT.
Dahil dito, binanggit ng DICT na makikipagpulong sila sa Meta para sa konkreto at agarang aksyon, na magpoprotekta sa mga mamamayan online.
Ngunit kung hindi raw magbunga ng anumang improvement ang pagpupulong, mariing nanindigan ang DICT na hindi mag-aatubili ang pamahalaan na magpataw ng mas mahigpit na aksyon laban sa pagkalat ng mga maling impormasyon.
“The DICT will hold a meeting with Meta to push for concrete, time-bound actions to better protect Filipinos online. If these discussions do not result in meaningful improvements, the government will not hesitate to pursue stronger regulatory and enforcement measures,” mariing saad ng DICT.
Dahil pagtitiyak nila, hindi sila titigil hangga’t hindi ligtas ang digital space para sa bawat Pilipino.
“Hindi tayo titigil hanggang sa masiguro nating ligtas ang digital space ng bawat Pilipino. Tuloy-tuloy ang Digital Bayanihan tungo sa isang Bagong Pilipinas!” pagtitiyak ng ahensya.
