Pinuri ni Senador Risa Hontiveros ang naging desisyon ni Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. na i-veto ang panukalang batas na naglalayong pagkalooban ng Filipino citizenship ang Chinese businessman na si Li Duan Wang.
Nitong Biyernes, Abril 11, nang kumpirmahin ni Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Claire Castro na nag-vetro si Marcos sa Senate Bill (SB) No.8839 hinggil sa pagbibigay ng Philippine citizenship kay Li.
Tinawag ni Hontiveros ang naturang desisyon ng pangulo bilang “necessary and welcome move.”
“This shows our government's commitment to protecting the sanctity of our Filipino citizenship. The president's veto is demanded by the weight of available evidence,” ani Hontiveros sa isang pahayag nito ring Biyernes.

Binanggit ng senadora na simula pa noong una ay naging hayagan na siya sa pagtuligsa sa panukalang bigyan ng Filipino citizenship si Lee dahil sa mga tinawag niyang katotohanang lubang nakababahala: ang pagkakaroon nito ng multiple taxpayer IDs, pagkakasangkot sa ilegal na Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO) operations, at magkakaanib sa isang grupo na naiulat na nakatali sa Chinese Communist Party.
“These all reflect bad faith on the part of the applicant. These are not small issues or minor technicalities. Rewarding Wang with Filipino citizenship, despite these red flags, would have sent the wrong message and set a dangerous precedent,” ani Hontiveros.
“I firmly believe that rejecting Li Duan Wang's application is a firm stand for our national interest. At the same time, we must continue to investigate and bring to justice other abusive personalities in the POGO industry who may be exploiting our laws and putting our security at risk. It is in this spirit that I welcome and appreciate the President's decision,” saad pa niya.
