Nagbigay na ang Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) ng lahat ng kinakailangang assistance para sa hindi bababa sa 19 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) na inaresto sa Qatar dahil sa umano'y pagdaraos ng kilos protesta noong Biyernes, Marso 28.
Ayon kay DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac, naipadala na ang labor attache sa himpilan ng pulisya kung saan nakakulong ang mga OFW para sa ilegal na pagpupulong dahil isinagawa umano ang kilos protesta nang walang necessary permit mula sa host country.
“We are closely monitoring the situation with our Embassy in Doha, we are providing all the assistance that we can. A labor attache, who is a lawyer, also went to the police station,” ani Cacdac sa isang panayam sa dzBB.
Parehong hindi sinabi ng DMW at ng Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) kung may kaugnayan ang ilegal na aktibidad sa pagdiriwang ng kaarawan ni dating pangulong Rodrigo Duterte noong Biyernes, kung saan isagawa ang mga kilos-protesta para tutulan ang kaniyang pagkadetine sa The Hague, Netherlands dahil sa kasong crimes against humanity na kinakaharap niya sa International Criminal Court (ICC).

Sa isang Facebook post, kinumpirma ng Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Doha ang pag-aresto.
“The Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Doha is aware that several Filipino nationals have been arrested and detained early today, 28 March 2025, for suspected unauthorized political demonstrations in Qatar,” nakasaad sa pahayag.
“The Embassy is in touch with local authorities for the provision of necessary consular assistance to said nationals,” dagdag pa.
Matapos ang insidente, pinaalalahanan ni Cacdac ang mga OFW na iwasang magsagawa ng mga aktibidad na lalabag sa mga batas ng host country.
“We would like to remind our OFWs not to violate the host country's laws because you are there to work,” ani Cacdac.
Sinabi rin niyang alam ng mga OFW sa Qatar ang mga batas doon dahil bahagi raw ito ng briefing bago ang kanilang deployment.
“They know that, but of course it can really happen. There are missteps and sometimes they forget about the laws of the host country. But we will continue to remind them,” saad ni Cacdac.
Pagdating naman sa DFA, pinaalalahanan ng Philippine Embassy in Doha ang mga OFW mula noong Marso 13 na respetuhin ang mga batas at kaugalian sa Qatar.
“The Embassy reiterates its previous advisory dated 13 March 2025 for all Filipino nationals in the country to respect local laws and customs relating to mass demonstrations and expressions of political grievances,” saad nito sa isang Facebook post.
