Nanawagan ang ilang environmental groups sa mga pulitiko na iwasang magpaskil ng campaign materials sa mga puno.
Sa inilabas na joint statement ng Interfacing Development Interventions for Sustainability (IDIS) at Quezon City’s EcoWaste Coalition kamakailan, iginiit nila ang mga posible umanong epekto ng mga pagpapako ng campaign banners sa mga puno.
“Nailing, pinning, and stapling campaign banners and posters to trees can cause stress and harm to these irreplaceable partners in making our communities healthy, livable, and sustainable,” saad ni Atty. Mark Peñalver, executive director ng IDIS.
Malinaw na panawagan naman ang iginiit ng EcoWaste Coalition na suportahan din umano sila ng mga kandidato sa pagsisimula ng campign period.

“As the election campaign goes full blast, we ask all candidates and their supporters to abide by ecological and legal practices and save our trees and the environment as a whole from abuse and disrespect. Torture not the trees. Please keep them banner- and poster-free,” anang EcoWaste Coalition.
Nakasaad sa Commission on Elections (Comelec) Resolution No. 11111 na mahigpit nilang ipinagbabawal ang mga campaign materials na ipinapaskil sa mga halaman at puno, kasama na rin ang mga lugar na katulad ng paaralan at iba pang parke.
“...Posting of campaign materials on planted or growing trees, flowering plants and shrubs or plants of scenic value along public roads, in plazas, parks, school premises or in any other public ground, which shall cause destruction or injury thereto, shall be strictly prohibited,” saad ng nasabing resolusyon.
