Tinatayang nasa 10-12 million years old ang natagpuang crocodile fossil sa Peru, nabatid nitong Miyerkules, Nobyembre 27.
Ayon sa ulat ng Associated Press (AP), nadiskubre ng mga paleontologist ang fossil ng young marine crocodile noong 2023 sa Ocucaje desert.
Ang natural crocodile fossil daw ay may habang tatlong metro o halos 10 feet. Ayon kay vertebrate paleontologist Mario Gamarra, ito raw ang kauna-unahang pagkakataon na nakadiskubre sila ng fossil ng ganoong species.
""This is the first time we found a juvenile of this species, that is to say, it had not reached its maximum size yet. It died before that," ani Gamarra sa AP.
Dagdag pa nito, ang skull at jaws ng natagpuang crocodile ay iba raw sa mga crocodile at alligator na nakikita ngayon.
"They had an elongated snout and their diet was entirely piscivorous, feeding on fish. The closest current relative to this crocodile would be the Indian gharial," anang paleontologist.
