Nagbigay ng paalala ang Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) para sa kaligtasan ng mga hayop sa gitna ng pananalanta ng bagyong Kristine sa Pilipinas.
Sa Facebook post ng PAWS nitong Miyerkules, Oktubre 23, inilatag nila ang mga dapat gawin bilang pet owner sa lugar na apektado ng bagyo:
- BE PREPARED. Know your evacuation plan and have an emergency pet go-kit ready. Ensure you know how and where you can safely transport your pets.
- BE RESOURCEFUL. Everyday items like laundry baskets or basins can be lifesavers as makeshift carriers.

- If you cannot evacuate with your pets, PLEASE UNCAGE AND UNCHAIN THEM to give them a fighting chance for survival.”
Pinaalalahanan din ng PAWS ang mga local government unit (LGU) na tiyaking sumusunod sa Animal Welfare Act ang pasilidad nila para sa mga impounded animal.
“We call on LGU pounds to always consider the animals in their care during times of disaster and crisis. In such dire events, the impounded animals must be evacuated alongside the pound’s staff or, if for any compelling reason evacuation with them is not possible, the humane option is to set these animals free from their cages so that they can swim to safety, rather than just leaving them trapped in danger,” saad nila.
