“Astronomical summer na!”
Asahan ngayong Biyernes, Hunyo 21, ang pinakamahabang araw at pinakamaikling gabi dahil sa tinatawag na “June solstice” o “summer solstice,” ayon sa Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
Sa isang pahayag, sinabi ng PAGASA na ang summer solstice ay isang astronomical event, kung saan mararanasan ang “longest day” at “shortest night” ng taon sa mga bansang matatagpuan sa northern hemisphere, tulad ng Pilipinas.
Ito raw ay nangyayari tuwing umaabot ang araw sa pinakamataas o “highest point” nito sa kalangitan.

“During the Summer Solstice, the Sun is at its highest or most northerly point in the sky. The Tropic of Cancer, situated 23.5 degrees north of the equator, is illuminated directly by the Sun during this time,” anang PAGASA.
“Throughout history, some civilizations considered the Summer Solstice a part of their cultural identity and religion,” dagdag nito.
Kaugnay nito, inaasahan daw na makararanas ang bansa ng 13 oras na “daytime” at 11 oras lamang na “nighttime” ngayong Biyernes.
