“My father never told me what to do, he taught by example. The way he lived his life inspired not just his children but many others as well. Here are five things he ‘taught’ me:

    National

PBBM sa National Teacher's Day: 'I wish you a joyful and productive celebration'

  1. Respect. Dad treated everyone with respect. He treated each person equally, regardless of their station in life.
  2. Courage. Dad once said that courage is not the absence of fear, but the ability to act despite the fear. He was one of the most courageous persons I ever encountered in my life.
  3. Integrity.  Dad was unwavering in his principles and core values.
  4. Love of country. He so loved his country he gave it everything he had—and never asked for anything in return.
  5. How Power can Poison the Heart. After giving a rousing speech before thousands of people at Liwasang Bonifacio which my brother and I attended, he told us that the crowd was so with him that if he had told them to storm the gates of Malacanang they would have followed him—then confided that he did not like to have that kind of power, that it could poison the heart.”

“Happy Father’s Day to all the amazing dads who lead my example!” saad pa niya.
