Binigyang-diin ni Senador Risa Hontiveros na hindi umano pag-atake sa Filipino-Chinese community ang nangyayaring pag-imbestiga ng Senado kay Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo.
Sa isang pahayag nitong Lunes, Mayo 27, binanggit ni Hontiveros na iniimbestigahan daw ng Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations and Gender Equality na kaniyang pinamumunuan si Guo dahil sa pagkakadawit nito sa ilegal na Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO) operasyon sa lalawigan.
“This is not an attack on Filipinos of Chinese heritage. My own maternal great-grandmother was pure Chinese. The revelations about Mayor Alice Guo came out after evidence of her complicity in POGO-related crimes. At ang ibang ebidensya galing mismo sa kaniyang mga salita,” giit ni Hontiveros.
“Marami nang ebidensya ang nalikom laban sa mga POGO sa huling walong hearing ng aking komite. Among these is the proliferation of fake identification documents from PhilHealth IDs to passports. This just shows how Chinese POGO syndicates have managed to obtain fraudulent Filipino identities through corrupt individuals in our government agencies. At ang malala kay Mayor Guo, she is a public servant,” dagdag pa niya.

Binanggit din ng senadora na mayroon umanong mga aktibidad ng “hacking” at “surveillance” sa POGO sa munisipalidad ng alkalde.
“Considering China’s aggressive influence operations around the world, it would be remiss of the Senate not to look into this angle. Marami pang gustong ibunyag ang ilang government agencies tungkol sa POGOs, na kanilang gagawin sa executive session bago ang susunod na public hearing,” ani Hontiveros.
“Sa gitna ng lahat ng ito, inuulit ko ang paalala ko na hindi kailanman magiging katanggap-tanggap ang racism, xenophobia at Sinophobia. Regardless of our heritage, all law-abiding citizens should not be the subject of hate and discrimination.
“This is not a witch hunt. This is not about politics. This is about national security, criminal activities, accountability in public service, the rights and welfare of women and children, and the structural failure of our system to regulate POGO as a business model,” saad pa niya.
Inilabas ni Hontiveros ang naturang pahayag matapos igiit ng Filipino-Chinese civic leader na si Teresita Ang-See na nagiging “zarzuela” na umano ang imbestigasyon sa Senado.
“I am not against the Senate investigating Guo. However, something which originated from concerns about POGO got sidetracked and had become ridiculous zarzuela and the POGO investigation disappeared from the scene,” ani Ang-See sa isang pahayag na inulat ng Manila Bulletin.
“This kind of witch hunt and personal attacks are way below decency and reflects badly on the dignity of the Senate. With their budget, shouldn't (the) Senate do their background investigation first? What has her alleged boyfriend, her luxurious lifestyle, her ability or inability to speak Hokkien and Mandarin have to do with her being Filipino or not,” saad pa niya.
Kasalukuyang iniimbestigahan ng Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations, and Gender Equality ang pagkakakilanlan ni Guo at ang pagkakadawit niya sa ni-raid na POGO sa Bamban.
