Sinabi ni Senador Risa Hontiveros na hindi na siya nasorpresa sa umano’y “gentleman’s agreement” sa pagitan ni dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte at China kaugnay ng West Philippine Sea (WPS).

Matatandaang kamakailan lamang ay sinabi ni dating Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque na nakipagkasundo si Duterte kay Chinese President Xi Jinping, sa tinawag na “gentleman’s agreement,” upang mapanatili umano ang “status quo” sa Ayungin Shoal, kung saan matatagpuan ang BRP Sierra Madre sa WPS.

“Harry Roque’s revelations are not all that surprising. Duterte always kowtowed to Beijing, putting his relationship with China first before our national interest. That much was clear during his presidency,” saad ni Hontiveros sa isang pahayag nitong Lunes, Abril 1.

“Duterte also never accorded our 2016 Arbitral Award its much-deserved respect and reverence. Kaya hindi kataka-taka na kung ano-anong ‘gentleman’s agreement’ ang pinasok niya.

“More importantly, the current chief executive has rescinded any concession that was made to China,” dagdag pa niya.

Sa kabila nito, giit ni Hontiveros, dapat daw manatili ang BRP Sierra Madre sa Ayungin Shoal.

“Our troops have been risking their lives to guard that ship. Huwag nating balewalain ang hirap at sakripisyo nila,” saad ng senadora.
