Ipinaliwanag ni Michelle Marquez Dee kung bakit ang legendary tattoo artist ng bansa na si Apo Whang-Od ang inspirasyon ng kaniyang isinuot sa evening gown competition ng 72nd Miss Universe.

Sa kaniyang Instagram post, nagbahagi si Michelle ng isang video kung saan suot niya ang kaniyang black gown na nagsisilbi umanong tribute kay Apo Whang-Od. 

Ayon kay Michelle, ginawa niyang inspirasyon ang legendary Filipina tattoo artist sa kaniyang evening gown dahil sinisimbolo umano niya ang “timeless beauty,” “bravery,” at “inclusivity.”

“A tribute to a legendary Filipina who has become an icon, preserving the rich cultural heritage of indigenous tattoo art. She has achieved global recognition and symbolizes timeless beauty, coinciding with Miss Universe lifting its age restrictions, championing inclusivity and challenging age stereotypes,” paliwanag ni Michelle.

“A true icon and the last of her kind, a symbol of bravery, beauty, and inclusivity… Whang Od.”

“This evening gown draws inspiration from the icon, with every stitch crafted passionately and proudly dedicated to our country. It is a creation by my friend and designer of dreams, @markbumgarner,” saad pa niya.

Matatandaang natapos ang journey ni Michelle sa ginanap na Miss Universe nitong Linggo, Nobyembre 19 (Philippine time), bilang Top 10 finalist.
