Naglabas ng pahayag ang Akbayan Party tungkol sa pagdepensa ni Vice President at Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Sara Duterte sa kontrobersiyal na confidential funds ng kaniyang tanggapan, at iginiit na ang mga taong kumukontra rito ay kumokontra umano sa kapayapaan.

"She cannot and should not have them. That's the point. The Vice President does not have the mandate or the job function that requires millions of confidential funds. Ang reklamo ng taumbayan ay hindi dapat ang Office of the Vice President (OVP) o ang Department of Education (DepEd) ang gumagamit ng confidential funds dahil hindi nila trabaho 'yun," saad ni Akbayan Party Spokesperson Perci Cendaña nitong Huwebes, Oktubre 5.
Matatandaang sa naganap na Philippine National Police (PNP) Regional Office 13’s 122nd Police Service Anniversary sa Butuan City nitong Miyerkules, Oktubre 4, iginiit ni Duterte na ang mga taong kumukontra sa confidential funds ng kaniyang tanggapan ay kumokontra umano sa kapayapaan.
“Makinig kayo sa lahat ng sinasabi sa palibot ninyo at tandaan ninyo, kung sino man kumokontra sa confidential funds ay kumokontra sa kapayapaan. Kung sino ang kumokontra sa kapayapaan ay kalaban ng bayan,” sabi ni Duterte
Ang naturang mga pahayag ng bise presidente ay nangyari matapos ang napabalitang desisyon kamakailan ng Kongreso na aalisin na ang pinagsamang ₱650 milyong confidential funds ng OVP at DepEd para sa 2024, upang ilipat umano sa mga ahensyang nakatutok sa isyu ng West Philippine Sea (WPS).

Sinuportahan ng Akbayan ang naturang realignment ng confidential funds dahil mas kailangan ito ng mga ahensyang nagtatanggol sa teritoryo ng Pilipinas sa West Philippine Sea.
"VP Sara, kung kailan tapos na ang budget hearings sa confidential and intelligence funds mo, saka ka naman salita ng salita. Bakit hindi mo ginawa noong budget deliberations? You ran away from that battle, but now you fan the flames of war?” patutsada ni Cendaña.
"We support the realignment of confidential resources to the agencies and offices that need them the most. Especially those who defend our people and territory in the West Philippine Sea. These are the people who need more help, not some spoiled brat who is too used to getting her way," bigay-diin pa nito.
"Hindi kami tutol sa confidential funds. Tutol kami na si VP Sara ang gumamit at magkaroon ng confidential funds."
