Isang taon matapos ang pagpaslang sa batikang mamamahayag na si Percival “Percy Lapid” Mabasa, nanawagan ng agarang hustisya para sa kaniya ang Freedom for Media Freedom for All (FMFA) coalition nitong Martes, Oktubre 3.
Matatandaang Oktubre 3, 2022 nang masawi si Percy Lapid matapos pagbabarilin habang nasa loob ng kaniyang kotse sa Las Piñas City, bandang 8:30 ng gabi.

Samantala, kinasuhan kamakailan si dating Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) director general Gerald Bantag ng two counts of murder dahil sa umano’y pagkakasangkot niya sa pagpatay kay Lapid at sa umano’y middleman na si Cristito Villamor Palana, isang person deprived of liberty (PDL) sa New Bilibid Prison sa Muntinlupa City.
Kasama umano ni Bantag bilang akusado si dating BuCor security officer Ricardo Zulueta.

Ayon naman sa FMFA, bagama’t tatlong PDLs na umano ang nasintensyahan bilang accessory sa naturang pamamaslang, maaari umanong “ma-archive” ang kaso laban sa mga umano’y mastermind sa krimen.
“We are concerned that although three persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) were sentenced to additional prison terms — after pleading guilty as accessories to the murder — the case against the alleged masterminds could be archived,” pahayag ng FMFA.
Samantala, nanawagan din ang FMFA ng agarang atensyon sa court hearings, kabilang na umano ang pagsigurong may abogadong magrerepresenta sa mga akusado upang hindi umano maantala ang court proceedings.
“FMFA calls for urgent attention to the court hearings, including making sure that the accused are represented by their lawyers so that court proceedings are not delayed by their absences,” anang koalisyon.
“Mabasa’s murder laid bare how dangerous the Philippines has become for media workers, particularly for hard-hitting radio commentators. The high-profile investigation that followed also revealed the sordid underbelly of the Philippine correctional system,” dagdag pa nito.
Ayon pa sa FMFA, isa umano ang Pilipinas sa mga bansa kung saan delikado ang buhay ng mga mamamahayag.
“Out of 178 cases of killings in the country, only in five cases have the masterminds been brought to court, including Mabasa’s killing,” anang FMFA.
“It is our hope that his killers are brought to justice. We encourage the public to closely monitor the case. Murders of journalists are not just issues for journalists, but for everyone who values life and freedom of the press,” saad pa nito.
Ang FMFA ay isa umanong koalisyon ng freedom advocates na kinabibilangan ng Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism, Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility, National Union of Journalists of the Philippines, MindaNews, at Philippine Press Institute.
