Nagpahayag ng “pagkaalarma” ang University of the Philippines (UP) Broadcasting Association hinggil sa ipinakilala ng GMA Network kamakailan na Artificial Intelligence (AI)-generated sportscasters.

Matatandaang noong Sabado, Setyembre 23, nang ipakilala ng GMA sina “Maia” at “Marco,” ang pinakaunang AI-generated sportscasters ng Pilipinas na unang nag-report sa pagsisimula ng National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Season 99 nitong Linggo, Setyembre 24.

Kaugnay nito, inihayag ng UP Broadcasting Association na naniniwala silang ang naturang hakbang ay nakakaalarma dahil sa magiging epekto umano nito sa kinabukasan ng larangan ng pamamamahayag.

“The UP Broadcasting Association firmly believes that this move does very little to serve the people as it only sets an alarming precedent that would profoundly impact the future of broadcasting and those who aspire to be in this industry,” pahayag ng samahan.

“While it is inevitable to adapt these kinds of emerging technologies in the practice of broadcasting, we should not forget that these technologies are mere tools to assist us and improve our work. They should not, in any way, replace and displace the people who have spent years in the study and practice of broadcasting,” dagdag pa nito.

Ayon pa sa UP Broadcasting Association, bago umano tanggapin ang “innovation and technological advancements,” dapat umanong tugunan muna ang mga realidad na kinahaharap ng mga manggagawa sa media, tulad na lamang daw ng kontraktwalisasyon, unfair labor practices, mababang kompensasyon at kakulangan sa mga benepisyo.

“If GMA truly aims to promote inclusivity in their reporting, they should instead focus their efforts and resources on hiring and properly compensating talented journalists and media workers. They should provide more opportunities to people who aspire to be part of the media industry and are working hard to do so,” anang UP Broadcasting Association.
