Nagpahayag ng pakikiramay si House Speaker Martin Romualdez sa pagpanaw ni dating Marikina Mayor, Congressman at Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chief Bayani Fernando nitong Biyernes, Setyembre 22.
"It is with a heavy heart that we offer our condolences on the passing of former Marikina City Mayor and Representative Bayani Fernando, a dedicated public servant who left an indelible mark on the city of Marikina and our nation," pahayag ni Romualdez.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time. May he rest in eternal peace," dagdag pa niya.
Binigyang-pugay rin ni Romualdez ang commitment ni Fernando sa progreso, at sa ipinamalas umano nitong serbisyo bilang Marikina 1st congressional district representative mula 2016 hanggang 2022, at alkalde ng lungsod mula 1992 hanggang 2001.
“His leadership extended beyond Marikina, as he also served as the Chairman of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority from 2002 to 2009, where he worked tirelessly to improve the quality of life for countless Filipinos in the capital region,” ani Romualdez.
"His legacy of visionary leadership and dedication to the betterment of our communities will forever be remembered," saad pa niya.
Nasawi si Fernando sa edad na 77 matapos umano siyang aksidenteng mahulog mula sa bubong ng kaniyang bahay.
