Ipinahayag ni Pangulong Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. nitong Lunes, Agosto 7, na patuloy na igigiit ng pamahalaan ang “territorial rights” ng Pilipinas sa West Philippine Sea (WPS).
Sinabi ito ni Marcos matapos ang naging pag-atake umano ng Chinese Coast Guard (CCG) sa sasakyang pandagat ng Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) sa Ayungin Shoal noong Sabado, Agosto 5.

Sa panayam ng mga mamamahayag kay Marcos sa City of Malolos, Bulacan, sinabi ng Pangulo na nagpadala na muli si Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo ng “note verbale” kay Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian hinggil sa insidente.

“We continue to assert our sovereignty. We continue to assert our territorial rights in the face of all of these challenges and consistent with the international law and UNCLOS (United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea) especially,” ani Marcos.
“That has always been our stand. But we still have to keep communicating with the Chinese government, with President Xi, with Beijing. We still have to keep communicating with them because we need to really come to a conclusion,” saad pa niya.
Binanggit din ng Pangulo na nagpatawag siya ng command conference upang mapagplanuhan umano ang magiging komprehensibong aksyon ng pamahalaan sa nasabing pag-atake ng CCG.
