Ito ang binigyang-diin ng Akbayan Party matapos ibasura ng Appeals Chamber ng International Criminal Court (ICC) ang apela ng pamahalaan ng Pilipinas na ihinto ang imbestigasyon sa “war on drugs” ng administrasyon ni dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte nitong Martes, Hulyo 18.

Sa isang pahayag, ibinahagi ng Akbayan Party na natutuwa sila sa inilabas na desisyon ng ICC, at inaasahan umano nila ang pagpapatuloy ng imbestigasyon nito sa “war on drugs” sa bansa na humantong sa pagkasawi ng libu-libong indibidwal.
“Despite the Philippines' withdrawal from the ICC which took effect in 2019, the Rome Statute asserts that the ICC continues to have jurisdiction over high crimes committed against Filipinos prior to our country's withdrawal. This was affirmed by no less than our Supreme Court,” anang Akbayan.
“Akbayan expects that the ICC will carry on with its investigation until it formally identifies Duterte and his accomplices, issues arrest warrants and bring them to stand trial for crimes against humanity,” saad pa nito.
