Nagpahayag ng labis na pagkadismaya si Senador Risa Hontiveros sa pagbasura ng Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court sa petisyon ni dating senador Leila de Lima na makapagpiyansa kaugnay sa kinakaharap na kasong may kinalaman sa illegal drugs.

Sa isang pahayag nitong Huwebes, Hunyo 8, binigyang-diin ni Hontiveros na karapat-dapat si de Lima sa isang mabilis na paglilitis gaya umano ng nakasaad sa Konstitusyon.
“I cannot help think about all the speedy trials of other prominent individuals recently, while Leila, who brought to light the abuses of the bloody drug war under the Duterte administration, is still languishing in jail for six years and counting,” ani Hontiveros.

“I call for an immediate and decisive end to this cycle of oppression. Stop this travesty of justice now!” saad pa niya.
Sinabi rin ng senador na naakaalarma rin daw na tinatangkilik pa rin ang mga testimonya mula sa tinawag niyang “self-serving sources.”
“Many of these false witnesses have already recanted their accusations against Leila, so why is her case still caught in the incredible lies and deception woven by these drug lords?
“Again, for the sixth year in a row, this ruthless tide of injustice against Leila must stop, and the trumped-up charges immediately dropped,” ani Hontiveros.
“And to my fellow Filipinos and to all human rights advocates, let us ensure that justice is not just reserved for the powerful and privileged, and that in this country, justice is not just a fairy tale,” dagdag niya.
Matatandaang nitong buwan lamang ng Marso ay pinawalang-sala ng Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court ang isa sa dalawang natitirang drug case laban kay dating de Lima na inihain ng Department of Justice (DOJ) noong 2017.
