Nagbabala ang Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) nitong Lunes, Mayo 22, sa publiko hinggil sa posibleng phreatic eruption sa Mt. Bulusan sa Sorsogon.
“Alert Level 0 (Normal) is maintained over Bulusan Volcano but there are chances of steam-driven or phreatic eruptions occurring from the crater or summit area,” pahayag ng Phivolcs sa isang advisory kaninang 4:00 ng hapon.
Pinaalalahanan ng Phivolcs ang mga lokal na pamahalaan at ang publiko na iwasang pumasok sa 4 kilometrong radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) partikular na sa malapit sa mga singawan ng timog timog-silangan ng dalisdis ng bulkan dahil sa posibilidad umano ng mapanganib at biglaang steam-driven o phreatic eruption, rockfall at landslide.
Kinakailangan din umanong payuhan ng mga awtoridad ng civil aviation ang mga piloto na iwasan ang paglipad malapit sa tuktok ng bulkan dahil ang abo mula sa anumang biglaang phreatic eruption ay maaaring maging mapanganib sa mga sasakyang panghimpapawid.

“Furthermore, people living within valleys and along river/stream channels should be vigilant against sediment-laden stream flows and lahars in the event of heavy and prolonged rainfall,” saad pa ng Phivolcs.
Ayon sa Phivolcs, 37 mababaw na volcanic earthquakes ang naitala ng Bulusan Volcano Network simula alas-5:00 ng madaling araw nitong Linggo, May 21. Binubuo umano ang mga ito ng 34 volcano tectonic earthquakes na nauugnay sa rock fracturing, at tatlong tatlong low frequency volcanic earthquakes na nauugnay sa paggalaw ng volcanic gas.
“Ground deformation data from electronic tiltmeter stations recorded short-term inflation of the southeastern slopes since December 2022,” saad ng Phivolcs.
“During times when the summit crater was visible, very weak emission of steam-laden plumes from the active vent on the southeastern slopes could be observed. These parameters are still related to volcanic gas activity within the edifice and may potentially trigger steam-driven or phreatic eruption from any of the active vents,” dagdag nito.
Patuloy umanong mahigpit na binabantayan ng DOST PHIVOLCS ang kalagayan ng nasabing bulkan.
