Hindi bababa sa 28 pasahero ang nasugatan matapos magbanggaan ang dalawang barko sa karagatan ng Mandaue City, Cebu, nitong Linggo, Mayo 21, ayon sa Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).

Sa ulat ng PCG nitong Lunes, Mayo 22, nangyari ang banggan ng MV St. Jhudiel at LCT (landing craft tank) Poseidon 23 sa karagatan ng Barangay Looc.

Umalis umano ang MV St. Jhudiel sa Ormoc City, Leyte, na may sakay na 197 pasahero, patungong Cebu City.

“While underway, it experienced STEERING CASUALTY AND ENGINE FAILURE, causing it to collide with LCT POSEIDON 23, which was on its way to Ormoc City from Mandaue City,” anang PCG.

Lulan naman umano ng LCT Poseidon 23 ang 20 indibidwal (drivers/cargo helper) at 17 rolling cargoes nang mangyari ang banggaan.

“It returned to its port of origin (Ouano Wharf, Mandaue City) to assess the damages incurred due to the accident,” saad ng PCG.

Ayon kay Lt. Junior Grade Abigail Jean Laturnas, ng Philippine Navy (PN) Naval Forces Central, hindi bababa sa 28 pasahero mula sa MV St. Jhudiel ang nagtamo ng injuries at binigyan ng first-aid treatment.

Agad naman daw nagtalaga ang PCG ng floating asset, land vehicle, at ambulansya para magbigay ng kinakailangang tulong.

Nagsagawa rin ang Coast Guard Special Operations Group - Central Visayas ng search and rescue operations.

Bukod dito, ipinadala rin ang Coast Guard Marine Environmental Protection Force - Central Visayas para magsagawa ng oil spill assessment.

Samantala, inatasan naman ng Coast Guard District Central Visayas ang Maritime Safety Services Unit na magsagawa ng marine casualty investigation.
