Mariing kinondena ng Department of Education (DepEd) ang anila ay nakakaalarmang pagtaas ng mga aktibidad ng New People’s Army (NPA) sa Masbate na nakakagambala umano sa pag-aaral ng mga estudyante doon.
Ayon sa DepEd, nagdudulot na ng trauma sa mga mag-aaral at mga school personnel ang mga aktibidad ng mga komunistang rebelde.
“The Department of Education (DepEd) vehemently condemns the alarming rate of communist rebel activities in Masbate, causing undue learning disruption in the province,” anang DepEd, sa isang pahayag nitong Huwebes.
“These acts of terrorism perpetrated by the New People’s Army (NPA) have caused trauma to learners and school personnel, who witnessed the senseless violence,” pahayag pa nito.

Sa kabila naman nito, sinabi ng DepEd na walang magaganap na ‘blanket suspension’ ng mga klase sa lalawigan.
Inatasan na rin umano ng DepEd ang kanilang regional office sa Bicol at schools division office sa Masbate na tiyakin ang pagpapatuloy ng pag-aaral doon.
Ipinaubaya rin ng DepEd ang suspensiyon ng in-person classes at paglilipat sa blended learning sa diskresyon ng mga pinuno ng mga paaralan o principal matapos ang nararapat na assessment at kaukulang koordinasyon sa mga concerned local government units (LGUs) at may konsiderasyon sa peace and order situation, gayundin sa mental health ng mga mag-aaral at mga school personnel.
“DepEd remains defiant against these fear-mongering tactics of terrorists as the agency commits to deliver basic education to all, even in disadvantaged areas,” dagdag pa ng DepEd.
“The DepEd Regional Office V and SDO Masbate are tasked to ensure that learning continuity shall take place. As such, there will be no blanket suspension of classes. The suspension of in-person classes and immediate shift to blended learning shall be left to the discretion of the school heads/principals, upon due assessment and proper coordination with the concerned LGU — keeping in mind the peace and order situation, as well as the mental health of learners and school personnel,” anito pa.
Tiniyak pa ng DepEd na bukas ang komunikasyon ni Vice President at DepEd Secretary Sara Duterte at ng Army Division Commander, na nangakong puproteksiyunan ang mga mag-aaral at mga school personnel sa lugar.
Plano rin umano ng kalihim na bumisita sa mga apektadong lugar sa Masbate, sa sandaling matukoy ng mga otoridad na ang kanyang presensiya doon ay hindi makakagambala sa operasyong kanilang isinasagawa.
Hinikayat rin ng DepEd ang publiko na manatiling vigilante sa lahat ng pagkakataon sa laban kontra terorismo at karahasan.
Una nang sinabi ng Southern Luzon Command (SOLCOM) Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) na isang engkwentro ang naganap sa pagitan ng tropa ng pamahalaan at ng mga komunistang rebelde, malapit sa isang paaralan sa Barangay Cawayan noong Marso 20.
Nagtungo umano ang mga sundalo sa lugar upang beripikahin ang impormasyon na may presensiya ng mga armadong grupo sa lugar.
Gayunman, kaagad silang pinaputukan ng mga hinihinalang rebelled na ikinasugat ng dalawang sundalo.
Ayon sa military, ang naturang pangyayari ay narinig at nasaksihan ng mga estudyante at mga kawani ng paaralan.
"We regret that the students and school personnel experienced the horror of being almost near the encounter between the Communist Terrorists Group and our soldiers,” anito pa.
