Kinandado ng Local Government Unit (LGU) ng Makati City ang headquarters ng mobile phone service unit ng PLDT na Smart Communications Inc. nitong Lunes, Pebrero 27, dahil umano sa ₱3.2-bilyong tax deficiency at kawalan ng business permit nito.
Sa Facebook post ng My Makati, nag-isyu raw ang LGU ng closure order laban sa Smart dahil sa pag-o-operate nito nang walang business permit mula pa 2019.
“Smart has [also] failed to settle or obtain any relief from the courts over its franchise tax deficiency worth over ₱3.2 billion covering the period January 2012 to December 2015,” dagdag nito.
Ayon kay Makati City Administrator Claro Certeza, hindi raw katanggap-tanggap at labag sa batas ang pagpapatakbo ng negosyo nang walang business permit.

“When businesses in Makati choose to operate without a valid business permit, they are essentially operating outside the law,” ani Certeza. “This is unacceptable, and I want to make it clear that we will not tolerate this kind of behavior, whether you are a big or small company.”
Sa desistance/closure order na may petsang Pebrero 23, 2023, binigyang-diin ng lungsod na lumabag sa Section 4A.01 ng Revised Makati Revenue Code o City Ordinance No. 2004-A-025 ang headquarter ng Smart na matatagpuan sa 6799 Ayala Ave. sa Brgy. San Lorenzo.
Hindi naman daw nagkulang si Makati City Mayor Abby Binay sa pagpapaalala sa mga negosyo sa Makati na sumunod sa batas at magpasa ng mga kinakailangang permit bago mag-operate sa lungsod.
“I am committed to making sure all businesses are operating legally. It is important for businesses to know that we take these matters seriously and will take action when necessary,” ani Binay.
Nitong nakaraang taon, nasa 191 business establishments umano ang pinasara ng Business Permits and Licensing Office ng Makati City dahil sa kakulangan ng mga ito ng business permits.
