Kinakailangan pa umanong aprubahan ng Board of Directors ng Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) ang pagtataas ng pasahe sa Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) at Line 2 (LRT-2) bago ito tuluyang maipatupad.
Ito ang paglilinaw na ginawa ng LRTA nitong Huwebes, kasunod ng mga naglabasang ulat na inaprubahan na ng Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) ang fare increase sa LRT-1 at 2.
Ipinaliwanag ng LRTA na ang ginawang pag-apruba ng LTFRB sa nasabing fare increase ay nasa nature ng naturang ahensiya, bilang miyembro ng LRTA Board of Directors, at hindi sa nature nito bilang regulatory board.
Paliwanag ng LRTA, ang taas-pasahe sa LRT-1 at 2 ay dapat na aprubahan rin muna ng LRTA Board of Directors, at ang LTFRB ay isa lamang anila sa siyam na miyembro nito,

Nabatid na bukod sa LTFRB, ang iba pang miyembro ng board ay ang Department of Transportation (DOTr), Department of Finance (DOF), Department of Budget and Management (DBM), National Economic Development Authority (NEDA), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), at dalawang Appointive Directors, na kinabibilangan nina LRTA Administrator Hernando T. Cabrera, at Atty. Dimapuno Datu.
Bukod dito, dadaan pa rin anila sa required regulatory process ang taas-pasahe na kinabibilangan ng public consultation at hearing.
“This refers to the news reports on the LTFRB approval of fare increase for LRT 1 & 2. The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) would like to clarify that the matter of the fare increase will go through proper process,” anang LRTA, sa isang pahayag.
“The approval of the LTFRB on the subject fare increase is in the nature of the said agency being a Member of the LRTA Board of Directors, and not in the nature of a regulatory body,” dagdag pa nito.
“The fare increase must be approved by the LRTA Board of Directors, and must likewise pass through required regulatory process which includes public consultation/hearing,” anito pa.
Nabatid na panukala ng LRTA na ma-adjust ang mga pasahe ng LRT-1 at 2 ng P2.29 bilang boarding fare, at karagdagang P0.21 kada kilometro para sa distance fare.
Napag-alaman na simula pa noong 2015 hanggang sa kasalukuyan, ang boarding fare ng mga naturang rail lines ay nasa P11.00 habang piso kada kilometro naman ang distance fare nito.
