Pinag-aaralan na ng Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) ang petisyon na itaas ang sweldo ng mga manggagawa sa pribadong sektor.
Ito ang reaksyon ni Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma nitong Miyerkules at binanggit na binigyan nila ng sapat na panahon ang wage board upang himayin ang naturang panawagan.
"We do not want to pre-empt the process of the Boards for the simple reason that any decision they will make, if there is discontent and there will be an appeal. That would go to the National Wages and Productivity Commission where your humble servant stands as chairman. So this point, we don't want our statement to be premature,” lahad ni Laguesma sa isinagawang pulong balitaan nitong Miyerkules.
Aniya, sinimulan na ng wage board ang pagdinig sa petisyon kamakailan. "We know that many are getting impatient of the process. But we cannot just rush this," pagdidiin ng opisyal.

Nauna nang ikinatwiran ng ilang labor group ang patuloy na pagtaas ng presyo ng mga bilihin sa bansa.
Kaugnay nito, nilinaw din ni Laguesma na hindi siya pabor sa isinusulong na buwagin na ang RTWPB.
"In my opinion, the existing mechanism, the regional wage boards, remains as the better choice. This is because it involves direct participation of the different sectors. There are worker and employer representatives, along with the government. There is balance," dagdag pa ni Laguesma.
Nitong Setyembre, ipinanukala ng isang Makabayan bloc na lusawin na ang wage board at sa halip ay lumikha na lang ng national wage board para sa mga manggagawa sa private sector.
