Iginiit ng isang opisyal ng Department of Transportation (DOTr) sa mga kongresista na obligahin ang lahat ng sasakyan na magkabit ng radio-frequency identification (RFID) sticker upang tuluy-tuloy ang daloy ng mga sasakyan sa lahat ng tollway sa Mega Manila.
Inilabas ni DOTr Undersecretary Steve Pastor ang rekomendasyon ng ahensya sa House transportation committee kaugnay sa isinasagawang deliberasyon sa isang panukalang batas na nag-uutos sa mga toll operator ng mga pangunahing expressway sa Mega Manila (Central Luzon, Calabarzon o Region 4A, Mimaropa o Region 4B, at Metro Manila) na lumikha at gumamit ng RFID.
"To further encourage RFID registration of motorists, we suggest to include a provision requiring RFID registration for motor vehicles yet to be sold or upon issuance of the certificate of registration and also as a requirement for renewal of motor vehicle registration. In the advent of recent technological advancements in toll collection systems, we respectfully suggest expanding the scope of the proposed bill not only to specific RFID systems but to the possibility of introducing other toll collection technology in the future," sabi nito.
Isinalang din sa deliberasyon ng mga kongresista ang isang resolusyon ng Kamara na humihikayat sa DOTr at sa mga attached agency nito, na madaliin ang pagpapatupad ng Phase 2 at 3 ng Toll Interoperability Project.
‘Julian,’ itinaas na sa ‘typhoon’ category
Sa ilalim ng proyektong sinimulan pa noong 2017, inoobliga ang mga road company na i-adjust ang kanilang sistema upang umakma sa integrated toll collection.
Kamakailan, nadismaya ang mga motoristang bumabaybay sa South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) matapos maranasan ang matinding trapiko sa northbound lane dahil sa pagpalya ng RFID system sa toll gate sa lugar.
