Sinimulan na ng mga kongresista ang pag-iipon ng ₱5 milyong pondo para sa pamilya ng napatay na veteran journalist  na si Percival "Percy Lapid" Mabasa.

Sa pahayag ni Cavite 4th District Rep. Elpidio Barzaga, Jr., nangako na ito ng ₱100,000 bilang seed money para sa naturang fundraising campaign.

Nanawagan din ito sa mga kasamahang mambabatas na makibahagi sa fund drive na mapakikinabangan ng kaanak ni Lapid.

Ang naturang hakbang ay nakapaloob sa House Resolution 508 na iniharap ni Barzaga nitong Lunes kung saan sinampahan ng mga awtoridad ng kasong murder si dating Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) chief Gerald Bantag at limang iba pa kaugnay ng umano'y pagkakadawit sa pagpatay kay Lapid.

"While giving of reward is commendable for the immediate apprehension of the perpetrators of the crime, it is also equally important that we provide to the heirs of the slain journalist whose relatives are now suffering from threats and intimidation in their lives," ayon sa kongresista.

"This representation, taking into consideration the plight of the family members of slain journalist Percival Mabasa, believes that we must also provide financial assistance to the heirs of the deceased commentator," dagdag pa ng mambabatas sa panayam sa telebisyon.
