'Welcome home, Orconuma!'
Ikinagalak ng Pambansang Museo ng Pilipinas ang pagtanggap nito nito noong Hunyo 11 sa Orconuma meteorite, ang kauna-unahang meteorite specimen na kasama sa National Geological and Paleontological Collections.
"It is one of the six meteorites from the Philippines listed in the Meteoritical Society’s Bulletin Database. Classified as an H3-4 chondrite, this space rock is one of the first solid materials to form from the earliest days of our solar system, about 4.6 billion years ago," pahayag ng Pambansang Museo ng Pilipinas.

Ito ay bahagi ng 7.8 kg na meteorite na nahulog noong Marso 7, 2011, sa Orconuma, Bongabong, Oriental Mindoro. Natagpuan ito sa bukid ng tatlong magsasaka na sina Fredo Manzano, Edgar Francisco, Sr., at Enrico Camacho, Jr., na nagtago at nag-imbak ng specimen sa loob ng 9 na taon.
Ang Orconuma meteorite ay ang unang meteorite specimen na isasama sa National Geological at Paleontological Collections.
Sa isang turnover at signing ceremony na ginanap noong Hulyo 8, 2022 sa National Museum of Natural History, natanggap ng Deputy Director-General para sa Museo Jorell Legaspi at Geology and Paleontology Division Officer-in-Charge Maileen Rondal ang ispesimen mula kay Mr. Aubrey Whymark, isang geologist na nag-facilitate ng donasyon mula sa mga may-ari na sina John Higgins at Jasper Spencer.
"The National Museum of the Philippines expresses its gratitude to Mr. Whymark, Mr. Higgins, and Mr. Spencer for this gift. We hope that this donation paves the way for the acquisition and donation of the other five listed and still unlisted meteorites that fell in the country," anang museo.
