Naglabas ng kaniyang opisyal na pahayag ang kontrobersyal na aktor na si Will Smith, matapos ang panunugod, pananampal, at pambubulyaw niya kay Chris Rock sa kasagsagan ng programa ng 94th Academy Awards o Oscars noong Linggo ng gabi, Marso 27, 2022, na nasaksihan hindi lamang ng mga naglalakihang Hollywood stars at personalities na dumalo roon, kundi pati ng mga netizen sa buong mundo.

Ayon sa kaniyang Facebook post nitong Marso 29, aminado siyang hindi katanggap-tanggap ang naging behavior niya nang gabing iyon. Matatanggap daw niya ang biro ukol sa kaniya, pero hindi niya matatanggap ang biro sa kaniyang misis na si Jada Smith na may medical condition.
"Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally," aniya.

Sa pangalawang talata, mababasa ang paghingi niya ng paumanhin kay Chris, na tumanggi nang magsampa ng reklamo sa pulisya.
"I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness."
Humingi rin siya ng dispensa sa Academy Awards at sa lahat ng mga nakasaksi ng pananampal niya.
"I would also like to apologize to the Academy, the producers of the show, all the attendees and everyone watching around the world. I would like to apologize to the Williams Family and my King Richard Family. I deeply regret that my behavior has stained what has been an otherwise gorgeous journey for all of us."
