Inihayag ng Unibersidad ng Pilipinas (UP) ang nakatakdang expansion ng Philippine General Hospital (PGH) sa pagtatayo nito ng UP Philippine General Hospital (UP PGH) Cancer Center at ang UP PGH Diliman.
Ayon sa UP, ang mga panukala para sa dalawang pangunahing proyekto sa imprastraktura ay nilatag ng Investment Coordination Committee (ICC)-Technical Working Group sa ICC Technical Board para sa muling pag-endorso sa ICC Cabinet Committee noong Marso 10.
Sa pagbanggit sa isang pag-aaral mula sa UP Manila National Institute of Health’s Institute of Human Genetics, sinabi ng UP na 189 sa bawat 100,000 Pilipino ang may cancer.

Sinabi ng UP na ang UP-PGH Cancer Center ay "tugon ng Unibersidad sa lumalaking hamon at kumplikadong cancer care" at magkakaroon ng 200 hanggang 300-bed dedicated cancer center sa loob ng kampus ng Unibersidad sa Maynila sa Ermita.
“With at least half of all beds exclusively serving underprivileged Filipinos, the new facility will offer advanced, integrated, and affordable,” saad ng UP.
Samantala, ang UP PGH Diliman ay magiging isang 700-bed public tertiary hospital at naglalayong “complement and enhance the capacity and services of UP PGH in Manila.”
“Drawing on the University’s knowledge and research capacities in many disciplines, from the STEM [science, technology, engineering, and mathematics] fields to the social sciences to the arts and humanities, the UP PGH Diliman hopes to be the top research hospital in the country. It will complement and enhance the network of health facilities and specialized hospitals in the Quezon City area,” dagdag ng UP.
