Pinapayagan na muli ang mga mananampalatayang Katoliko na magpapahid ng abo sa noo sa Ash Wednesday sa Marso 2 bilang pagsisimula ng Kuwaresma sa bansa.
Sa kanilang patakaran na inilabas nitong Sabado, binanggit ng Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), ibabalik na nila ang kinaugaliang paglalagay ng abo sa noo sa gitna ng pandemya ng coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
“The formula for the imposition of ashes ‘Repent, and believe in the Gospel,’ or ‘Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return’ is said only once ‘applying it to all in general.’ We will revert to the imposition of ashes on the forehead of the faithful,” ayon sa alituntunin na pirmado niCBCP Episcopal Commission on Liturgy Chairman Bishop Victor Bendico.
“The sprinkling of ashes on the crown will remain an option. We have been reminded last year that this option is an ‘opportunity to catechize our people on both the penitential and baptismal characters of the Lenten season,” sabi pa nito.

Noong 2020 at 2021, binago ng pamunuan ng Simbahan ang pagdaraos ng Miyerkules ng Abo dulot na rin ng pandemya.
Sa halip na ipahid sa noo, ibinubudbod na lamang ito sa ulo ng mga nananampalataya.
